Supacode review

Supacode is a native macOS app that runs coding agents in parallel, each task in its own git worktree and terminal. It costs a one-time $99 or more and uses a source-available licence. We read the vendor's site and GitHub pages in October 2026. We did not run an independent test.

Who it is for

Mac users who want a worktree-first terminal workspace for several CLI agents and prefer paying once.

What stands out

Each task gets a worktree and a real terminal, rendered by libghostty. The sidebar shows branch and pull request state.

Sessions run inside a background daemon called zmx. Quitting the app or dropping an SSH connection does not end them. Remote SSH repositories are supported and labelled beta.

The app detects Claude, Codex and Copilot panes through hooks and shows busy, awaiting input or idle badges. Other CLI agents run as plain terminals. A supacode CLI and deeplinks let scripts and other apps create worktrees, tabs and splits.

The latest release was v0.11.6 on 25 October 2026. The repository showed 2,400 stars on 29 October 2026.

Price and licence

Seen 29 October 2026: Basic is $99 for one Mac, Standard is $129 for two Macs, and Team is $79 per seat with a three-seat minimum. Each is a lifetime licence with one year of updates. The first five local worktree creations are free. After that a licence is needed for new local worktrees, while SSH worktree creation stays free.

The code is under FSL-1.1-ALv2, which bars competing commercial use. The site calls it source available. We do not count it as open source.

Supacode features

Supacode strengths

  • One git worktree and terminal per task, with live branch and pull request state in the sidebar
  • Sessions run in a background daemon (zmx), so quitting the app or losing an SSH link does not end them
  • Detects Claude, Codex and Copilot panes through hooks and shows busy, awaiting input or idle badges; other CLI agents run as plain terminals
  • supacode CLI and deeplinks let scripts and other apps create worktrees, tabs and splits

Supacode weak points

  • macOS only and needs macOS 26
  • Licence is FSL-1.1-ALv2, not an OSI-approved open-source licence; the paid licence is needed to create new local worktrees after five
  • Remote SSH repositories are labelled beta, with some local-only features reduced
  • No mobile app, phone control or MCP support appears on the pages read
