Official site

Nimbalyst review

Nimbalyst is a free desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux that runs Claude Code and Codex sessions in parallel git worktrees. It also has visual editors for the files agents produce. The code is MIT licensed. We read the vendor's site and GitHub pages in October 2026. We did not run an independent test.

Who it is for

Developers who want a free app that pairs parallel agent sessions with visual editing of markdown, mockups and diagrams.

What stands out

Sessions run side by side, each isolated in a worktree. A kanban board tracks them, and each session links to the files it touched.

Agent edits appear as red and green diffs in rendered documents, where you accept or reject each change. Built-in editors cover markdown, mockups, Mermaid, Excalidraw, CSV and code. An embedded terminal is included.

The README documents an MCP client and servers. An iOS companion app shows which agents need input and accepts replies by text or voice. The App Store listing showed version 1.3.0, updated on 20 October 2026.

The latest stable release was v0.81.7 on 16 October 2026. The repository showed 1,995 stars on 29 October 2026.

Price and licence

Seen 29 October 2026: the desktop app is $0 for individuals, with no feature limits and no trial. You need your own Claude Code or Codex subscription or an API key. Wiki Teams, a separate browser product, is $20 per user per month and free during beta. The repository is MIT licensed; the collaboration sync server is a separate project.

Nimbalyst strengths

  • MIT-licensed app with source on GitHub and installers for macOS, Windows and Linux
  • Parallel sessions each isolated in a git worktree, tracked on a kanban board and linked to the files they touched
  • Visual editors (markdown, mockups, Mermaid, Excalidraw, CSV, code) with red/green diff review of agent edits
  • README documents an MCP client and servers; iOS app shows which agents need input and lets you reply by text or voice

Nimbalyst weak points

  • Supported agents are Codex and Claude Code; OpenCode and GitHub Copilot are marked alpha in the README
  • Broader scope than agent management (documents, diagrams, mockups, wiki), which adds surface area for users who only want a session manager
  • Sends anonymous usage analytics to PostHog by default; opt-out is in settings
  • Android support is claimed only in the GitHub description; the collaboration sync server is a separate project not covered by the repo's MIT licence
