Coding agent (CLI) · Reasonix (community)
DeepSeek-Reasonix
Go-based coding agent with a CLI/TUI, desktop app, local web UI and editor integration. It ships a DeepSeek preset but accepts any OpenAI-compatible provider, and can run on remote hosts over SSH.
DeepSeek-Reasonix review
DeepSeek-Reasonix is a Go terminal coding agent with a CLI, a desktop app and a local web UI. It is free and MIT licensed. We read the vendor's pages and repository in October 2026. We did not run an independent test.
Who it is for
Developers who want a free agent with a desktop app, remote SSH sessions and a DeepSeek-friendly default. It is not a vendor-backed DeepSeek product.
What stands out
You bring your own model key. A DeepSeek preset is built in, and any OpenAI-compatible or Anthropic-compatible endpoint can be added. Install is `npm i -g reasonix` or Homebrew. Reasonix Studio for macOS, Windows and Linux, plus 2.x CLI archives, are on GitHub Releases.
Remote SSH mode starts a headless `reasonix serve` on the remote host and tunnels to it. We read this in the guide and did not test it. `reasonix run` covers headless use. The agent has permission levels, plan mode, and rewind of edited files. It has an OS sandbox on macOS and Linux. It also has subagent profiles, parallel tasks, MCP plugins and a Go SDK.
Price and licence
Free and open source under MIT, as of 28 October 2026. You pay your model provider directly. Sponsor links appear on the page.
Where it falls short
- It is a community project run by an individual maintainer. No page says it is official or unofficial DeepSeek, and we did not confirm the relationship with DeepSeek.
- Two version lines diverge: 1.x in maintenance and 2.x for Studio. The README install steps mix them, and we did not verify which line `npm i -g reasonix` installs.
- There is no OS sandbox on Windows. Rewind covers only files changed by its edit tools, not shell-command effects.
- We found no documented Ollama or LM Studio setup. Only OpenAI-compatible endpoints and Ollama Cloud are named.
Alternatives
See terminal coding agents. Codewhale defaults to DeepSeek and is MIT licensed. OpenCode is another open-source option.

DeepSeek-Reasonix strengths
- MIT licence, 36k stars and releases almost daily; a real coding agent, not just a wrapper

DeepSeek-Reasonix weak points
- A community project run by an individual maintainer, with a name that includes 'DeepSeek' despite no stated official link; DeepSeek is a built-in preset, not the owner

- No OS sandbox on Windows, and rewind covers only files changed by its edit tools, not shell-command effects

- Git worktree support (only a passing 'isolated worktrees' mention in the SSH section) and local-model (Ollama/LM Studio) support not confirmed
- Remote SSH docs read from GUIDE.md on the studio branch; not tested
