Antigravity CLI
Google's closed-source terminal agent built in Go, replacing Gemini CLI for individual users since June 2026. Documents subagents, hooks, plugins, MCP config, headless JSON output and a sandbox flag.
Antigravity CLI review
Antigravity CLI is Google's terminal coding agent, run with the command agy on macOS, Windows and Linux. It replaced Gemini CLI for individual users in June 2026. It is free to start, but it is not open source. We read the vendor's pages and repository in October 2026. We did not run an independent test.
Who it is for
People who used Gemini CLI on a personal Google account, and teams on Google AI or Google Cloud plans, who want the agent Google now develops.
What stands out
The CLI is built in Go and shares its agent engine and settings with the Antigravity 2.0 desktop app. Google's migration page lists subagents, hooks, skills, plugins and MCP servers, configured in an mcp_config.json file. Running agy plugin import gemini converts old Gemini CLI extensions into plugins.
Headless mode uses -p. It can print text, a single json result or stream-json events, and it accepts stream-json input and a JSON schema. It runs on cached sign-in, so you sign in once interactively first. Shell commands are denied in headless mode unless you pre-approve them in settings. There is also a --sandbox flag, which defaults to off. We did not read the sandbox page.
Over SSH the CLI prints a sign-in URL so you can finish login on another machine. The repository's changelog shows version 1.4.9, without dates.
Price and licence
The pricing page lists an Individuals plan at $0 a month with basic weekly rate limits. Google AI Pro and Ultra add higher limits and an AI credit pool, and business plans through Google Cloud start at $30 per seat per month. Google's plans page says every plan includes the CLI, and publishes no CLI quota numbers. Seen 29 October 2026.
It is not open source. The public repository holds issues, examples and a changelog, with no source code and no licence file. Google's terms do not state a software licence. We therefore mark it proprietary.
Where it falls short
- Google says it lacks 1:1 feature parity with Gemini CLI. Workspace skills and MCP settings move to new locations by hand.
- Section 6 of the terms bars using third-party tools to reach the service. It names OpenClaw with Antigravity OAuth as an example and says accounts can be suspended.
- The README says Google collects interaction data unless you opt out in settings.
- We could not confirm the free quota. Third-party posts give about 20 requests a day in one case and a weekly refresh in another.
- The models page returned an error, so we could not confirm which models a free account gets. Ultra includes third-party models.
- We found no documented bring-your-own-key route and no local-model setup.
Alternatives
See terminal coding agents for the wider list. Gemini CLI is the open-source predecessor. Codex CLI is Apache-2.0, and OpenCode works with many providers. Our comparison with Gemini CLI sets out the differences.

Antigravity CLI strengths
- Free Individuals plan with weekly rate limits, and the CLI is included in every plan
- Headless mode with -p, json and stream-json output, stream-json input and a --json-schema option
- Subagents, hooks, skills, plugins and MCP server configuration are documented; agy plugin import gemini converts old Gemini CLI extensions
- Shares its agent engine and settings with the Antigravity 2.0 desktop app, and works over SSH with a printed sign-in URL
Antigravity CLI weak points
- Not open source: the public repo holds issues, examples and a changelog, with no source or licence file
- Google says it lacks 1:1 feature parity with Gemini CLI at launch
- Terms section 6 forbids accessing the service through third-party tools, and names OpenClaw with Antigravity OAuth as an example; accounts may be suspended
- Usage data is collected unless you opt out in settings; the free quota figures are unpublished and vary between sources
Who Antigravity CLI is for
- best for
- Individuals and teams already on Google AI plans or Google Cloud who want Google's current terminal agent, especially former Gemini CLI users.
- look elsewhere if
- Anyone who needs open-source code, a bring-your-own-key route, or local models; none are documented.
